First Practice 2010

On the weekend of January 9th and 10th, the Austrian National Team startet into the World Championships year with their first team camp, even though the weather was everything but great.

Before the practice could start, the team had to clear the field from the snow, which was a good possibility for team building. Although the fun was not missed out, the team worked very focused as soon as practice started.

Due to the weather there was a change of plans for sunday and a classroom session was scheduled. Besides some organisational discussions the team watched and analyzed the 2009 NCAA final.

Friendly Scrimmages with Poland and Slovakia

December 12 & 13 was the last training camp of 2009, which included a joint training session with the Polish team on saturday followed by a mixed scrimmage, and a 3 team round robin tournament on Sunday between Austria, Poland and Slovakia.

4th National Team Camp

The 4th Camp of the Austrian National Team took place on the weekend of 22nd & 23rd of August. Saturday was used for practice units and working on some tactical things. On Sunday the Bratislava Tricksters (SK) visited Vienna once again to play against the National Team. Austria won in a very close game with 6:5.

Austrian Nations Cup 2009

On the last weekend of July (24th to 26th) the Vienna Cherokees hosted the second Austrian Nations Cup in Vienna. The Austrian National Team was one team competing for the win.

The teams playing in the tournament were:

  • Team Austria
  • Team Tricksters (Slowakia)
  • Team Switzerland
  • Vienna Cherokees

The Austrian National Team had a good start into the tournament and won its first game in an Austrian clash against the Vienna Cherokees with 9:0.

On Saturday the win against the Swiss team (4:3) and a draw against the Tricksters from Bratislava (4:4) were enough to win the preliminary round.

The semifinal, also played on Saturday, was once again against the Vienna Cherokees. Although the Cherokees were extra-motivated and were fighting back really well in the first half, the National Team could win with a score of 10:3. Team Switzerland and the Bratislava Tricksters had a very close fight for the finals. The Swiss won thanks to a golden goal in overtime.

As a result to that, the finals on Sunday were Vienna Cherokees vs. Bratislava Tricksters for third place and the Austrian National Team vs. the Swiss Team for first place. The Tricksters won their game with a score of 13:3 and then everybody was excited and curious, as the games between Austria and Switzerland are always very close, very thrilling and fun to watch.

At first it looked like this “rule” will be broken for the first time as Austria had an early 4:0 lead. But the Swiss fought back and after tying the score the lead went back and forth. In the last quarter the Swiss could gain a two-goal lead which they didn’t let go of.

The spectators saw once again an awesome fight between the two neighboring countries.

The final standings of the second Austrian Nations Cup are:

  1. Team Switzerland
  2. Team Austra
  3. Bratislava Tricksters
  4. Vienna Cherokees
